ResumoCarcinoma in situ (Tis) of the urinary bladder is usually treated with conservative measures such as fulguration and intravesical chemotherapy. The majority of patients, however, will experience disease recurrence and the only effective treatment for recurrent resistant carcinoma in situ of the bladder has been cystectomy and urinary diversion. The necessity for such a radical approach has been demonstrated, yet the use of surgery of such magnitude and consequence for superficial cancer is unfortunate.
