ResumoThis study purposed: to evaluate the balance of handball athletes; to compare the balance of these athletes with the balance of sedentary individuals; to evaluate the relationship among weight distribution in plantar region and balance; also to correlate frequency of sports injuries in lower limbs and total displacement of the pressure center (POC). Participated of this study 20 individuals, the athletes group (AG) was formed by 11 handball athletes (16±1,73 years old) and the non athletes group (NAG) was formed by 9 individuals of feminine gender (19±0,68 years old). The balance was evaluated by the baropodometric Matscan® System, with the participants in orthostatic position with bipodal base, during 30 seconds. For compare the displacement of POC among AG and NAG was used Mann-Whitney test and for the correlation among frequency of sports injury and total displacement of the POC was used Spearman’s Correlate Coeficient. For statistical tests was considered significative p≤0,05. The total displacement of POC of the AG was 1,38±3,9 cm2. The AG presented a higher total displacement of POC than the NAG (p= 0,01). The total displacement of POC of individuals with plane foot and normal foot was lower than individuals with cavus foot in both groups. The correlation among frequency of sports injuries and total displacement of POC was significative (p=0,04 e r=0,63). Through the data obtained in this study can be concluded that the handball practice decrease the balance and there was correlation among total displacement of POC and frequency of sports injury.
