ResumoTHE PORT OF NEW YORK AUTHORITY IS CONCERNED WITH THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF TERMINAL AND TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES TO CARRY OUT ITS RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND PROTECTION OF NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY PORT DISTRICT COMMERCE. VARIOUS REAL ESTATE FUNCTIONS MUST NECESSARILY BE BASIC TO ALL PROJECTS AND FACILITIES. ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PORT AUTHORITY'S DEPARTMENT OF REAL ESTATE IS ITS TENANT RELOCATION FUNCTION. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SECOND DECK TO THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE IS A $170,000,000 PROJECT WHICH INCLUDES EXTENSIVE ENLARGEMENT OF PRESENT APPROACHES TO THE BRIDGE, A $13,000,000 BUS PASSENGER FACILITY, AND A 12-LANE DEPRESSED HIGHWAY STRAIGHT ACROSS MANHATTAN ISLAND. THIS PAPER SETS FORTH THE BASIC PLANNING, CONTROLLING POLICIES, AND DETAILED PROCEDURES USED IN RELOCATING 1,835 APARTMENT HOUSE TENANTS, AFTER ACQUIRING 82 BUILDINGS IN THE RIGHT-OF- WAY OF THE NEW 12-LANE HIGHWAY. /AUTHOR/
