Resumo

The present study clarifies which and the amount of different types of carried dangerous goods and the areas where these goods were carried in Finland in 1997. Furthermore, the study clarifies the distribution of transport modes in road and sea transport. The study concerns all transport modes. In Finland in 1997 approximately 9.6 million tons of dangerous goods were transported by road, 8.4 million tons by railway, 34.2 million tons by sea, of which the share of bulk cargo was 0.5 million tons and 1.4 thousand ton was carried by air. The major part of dangerous goods was carried by road to the south from the Pori-Tampere-Imatra line. Carriage by railway was operated mainly from Vainikkala to Kouvola, from where carriage was distributed to the ports of Kotka, Hamina and Skoldvik. The busiest ports were Kilpilahti, Kotka, Hamina, Naantali, Helsinki, Pori and Raahe.
