Resumo

This article provides a brief overview of Mexico’s Toluca International airport, which has seen dynamic growth over the past two years. Congestion at Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport, and the emergence of Mexican low-cost carriers are the reason Toluca, located about 40 miles from Mexico City, has grown from 13,000 passengers a month in 2005 to 250,000 a year later. Low-cost carriers Interjet and Volaris have taken advantage of Toluca’s location to become major players in the Mexican market, and have the greatest presence at Toluca. The airport also serves Continental Airlines, which flies to Houston, the airport’s lone international connection. There is currently only one airstrip, but a second is planned.
