Railway Systems and Energy Efficiency

This paper describes a system which provides for the production of timetables, bus and driver schedules and driver rosters by computer. It describes such a system, implemented in Hamburg in 1979, and provides background and component information of the system. This is followed by a discussion of problems encountered in introducing the system, a description of the actual implementation, and a survey of the benefits already achieved and expected.
