ResumoThe Red Sea has been an important route of trade throughout human recorded history, linking trade goods of India and the Far East with the historical markets in Egypt, the classical world and Europe. When Ferdinand de Lesseps completed the Suez Canal in 1869, the connection became direct, and now the Red Sea is one of the most important shipping routes in the world. The narrow southern strait of Bab Al-Mandab marks the boundary between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
