ResumoThis article reviews the progress of the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) in regenerating the Docklands areas of Wapping, Isle of Dogs and the Surrey and Royal Docks. Included in the review are brief descriptions of the three transport systems to the area: the Docklands Light Railway (DLR); the short take off and landing airport (Stolport), now named the London City Airport; and the new road network. New roads will link each Dockland area North of the river at the same time as producing greater capacity for the general East to West traffic movement through East London. New constructions include a crossing over the lower part of the River Lea, and the western (limehouse) extension of the highway from Wapping and the city to the Isle of Dogs. Three additional routes are planned to the East of the River Lea: one will link Docklands to the M11 motorway, thus providing access to the M25 and the national motorway network; another will provide a southern route through the Royals via Silvertown; and the third will involve improvements to the A13.
