Resumo

The spectral properties of the Woodstock gamelan, a three-octave set of tubular chimes in just intonation with a tonic (1/1) of G3, are considered. Throughout the instrument's pitch range, each chime has only three to five significant partials, and the frequency ratios of the partials are the same in the low and high registers. A Csound implementation for synthesizing Woodstock Gamelan tones has been developed. Listening tests show that this model produces tones that are very close to the original ones. With simple changes to the model parameters, it also produces attractive related timbres.
