Resumo

There are few floristic surveys with any emphasis in a municipality, which is a political unit with the potential to develop several environmental management actions. The purpose of this study was to complete an inventory of the native tree species within the municipality of Nova Petropolis, describing the main phytophysiognomies that exist, subsidizing future works. There were 194 tree species belonging to 60 families found, and these trees were classified into six phytophysiognomies: lower slope forests, upper slope forests, Araucaria forests, plateau-edge forests, swamp forests, and riparian forests. Species richness corresponds to 37% of the tree species found in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. We emphasize the necessity to protect these phytophysiognomies and their species, especially the plateau-edge forests which have a higher concentration of range-restricted and endangered species, and the riparian forests due its ecological and socioeconomic values.
