Resumo

As British Airways completes a delayed reorganization and integration of separate regional operations, its CitiExpress arm is proving central to strategic plans. Consolidating four carriers is expected to reduce passenger capacity by 8% and lower costs by $20 million annually. By fall 2002, if plans proceed as intended, CitiExpress will be the largest regional in Europe, replacing Lufthansa CityLine in the number of passengers it carries. Its primary role is not feeder service, but point-to-point travel. It is flying 123 city-pairs with 48 destinations, including 24 on the other side of the channel. Cutbacks in crew bases, and reductions in duplications have led to job cuts. A smaller fleet is also reducing jobs needed to operate it.
