EnglishIt was already quite late when the Catholic Social Action got settled in the dioceses in Extremadura. The arrival of Monsenor Jarrin (1907-1912), Plasencias social bishop, meant a renovation of labour consciousness in the diocesan Church. His work, together with his chamber assistant Jose Polo Benito, resulted in a number of labour associations with a catholic orientation (trade unions, rural savings banks, cooperatives, social centres and etc) that were spread around the parish churches in the area of Salamanca, Caceres and Badajoz. Together with these official sponsors, there were other figures ahead of the diocesan Catholic-labour movement, such us Jose Maria Santamera, Modesto Rodillo, Enrique Llanes and Santiago Agero amongst other flag-bearers for the cause. Monsenor Regueras would continue this social intervention from 1916 onwards by creating agrarian trade unions and their federation in 1920.
