Resumo

Two English professors (U. of Vermont) track down Edgar Allen Poe's (1809-49) contributions to the Gothic tradition and his invention of the detective tale. They include British as well as American writers, among them Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Louis Stevenson, Thomas Harris, Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, Sara Parestsky, and Sue Grafton. They also consider film, especially by Roger Corman.
