ResumoAircraft engine noise reduction programs are increasing in number as powerplant manufacturers and other segments of the industry attemmpt to bring older, noisier aircraft into compliance with FAR 36 Stage 3 noise regulations. Programs under consideration include the addition of acoustic treatments, mixers and noise suppressors to existing powerplant installations, as well as reengining with newer, quieter, more fuel efficient powerplants. The aircraft affected include versions of the Boeing 727 and 737 and McDonnell Douglas DC-9s. All are powered by Pratt & Whitney JT8D series engines.
