ResumoThe method of quick release and stretch of the plasmodial strands was used to study their viscoelastic properties at different phases of contraction-relaxation cycle. The rheological behaviour of the strand on a time scale which is much shorter than the period of autooscillations is described in terms of a parallel combination of elastic component and Maxwell element. The stiffness and viscosity oscillate synchronously with cyclic tension production. The 10–20% stepwise stretching of the strand results in a rapid increase of the stiffness. The participation of mechanochemical system in cell oscillator is discussed.
