Fifty catheters, comprising brands of latex, silicone, teflon-coated latex and polyvinylchloride (PVC) were assessed. The silicone, teflon-coated latex and PVC catheters were shown to cause minimal inflammatory change of the urethral mucosa, whereas the latex catheters showed variable and more marked changes.
