Do we need to shift ow emphasis on the importance of specific skills and abilities required by front line librarians? Or, do we need to emphatically emphasize service as a primary mission in library services? In addition to basic core competencies, today's reference librarian must be committed to providing superior public service to library clientele and that commitment must be immediately apparent to each user.
