ResumoThe Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (GFATM) has quickly become one of the most important international organizations involved in combating infectious disease. The Global Fund does not have 'members', it is primarily a mechanism aimed at channelling funds from donors to recipients, not a membership organization. The Fund's Board handles overall governance, a Technical Review Panel (TRP) decides which grant proposals should be approved, and the Fund Secretariat is responsible for day-to-day administration. The World Bank is the Trustee for the Global Fund; it manages the funds received from donors, and disburses approved funds to Principal Recipients (PRs). The Global Fund faces a variety of challenges in the coming years. Though its funding stream has grown with each year, the funds required to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria far outpace the volume of pledges that the Fund has received.
