SUMMARY The publication of this series of papers on the nomenclature of the genera of pteridophytes was begun fifteen years ago under the general title of « Names and types of fern genera ». The first and second parts were issued in 1955 and 1957. This paper which deals with the living fern-allies belongs essentially to the same series. The plan of the work is fundamentally the same as in the previous papers with the exception of a few changes and additions. The remarks on the typification, nomenclature and taxonomy are given in separate paragraphs instead of in a single paragraph previously called « Observationes ». The synonymy is given in an independent paragraph. For each family a « Conspectus generum » is added, with the intent of giving a synoptic table of the nomenclatural and taxonomic interrelations of the various genera. The new sign: ≡ is introduced for nomenclatural synonyms by lectotypification. A part of the preface is devoted to the illustration of the criteria followed in the typification of genera. The cases in which a species is recognized as the typus (type in the narrow sense) are indicated. The guiding-principles for the designation of the lectotypes of generic names are pointed out. On the basis of the conclusions reached in a previous paper, the author explains the criteria adopted for the typification of those names which can become superfluous owing to a lectotypification. The expression superfluous names by lectotypification is adopted for them, and consequently the category of nomenclatural synonyms by lectotypification is introduced. The generic names which have been taken into consideration in this account are listed, in taxonomie order, in the Conspectus generum of each family, and, in alphabetical order, at the end of the paper on the index to generic names. RIASSUNTO La pubblicazione di questa serie di lavori sulla nomenclatura dei generi delle pteridofite fu intrapresa quindici anni orsono sotto il titolo generale di « Names and types of fern genera ». La prima e seconda parte furono pubblicate nel 1955 e 1957. Questo lavoro, che tratta delle pteridofite viventi ad eccezione delle felci, appartiene in definitiva alla stessa serie. Il piano del lavoro è fondamentalmente lo stesso di quello dei lavori precedenti, ad eccezione di pochi cambiamenti ed emendamenti. Le osservazioni sulla tipificazione, nomenclatura e tassonomia vengono fornite in paragrafi separati anziché in un unico paragrafo precedentemente indicato con il nome di « Observationes ». La sinonimia è data in un paragrafo indipendente. Per ciascuna famiglia viene aggiunto un « Conspectus generum » con lo scopo di fornire un quadro generale delle interrelazioni tra i vari generi dal punto di vista della nomenclatura e della tassonomia. Il nuovo segno: ≡ viene introdotto per indicare i sinonimi di nomenclatura in seguito a lectotipificazione. Una parte della prefazione è dedicata ad illustrare i criteri seguiti nella tipificazione dei generi. Vengono indicati i casi nei quali una specie è riconosciuta come il typus (tipo in senso stretto) e stabiliti i principi sui quali si basa la designazione dei lectotipi dei nomi generici. Sulla base delle conclusioni raggiunte in un lavoro precedente, l'autore spiega i criteri adottati per la tipificazione di quei nomi che possono divenire superflui in seguito a lectotipificazione. Viene adottata l'espressione nomi superflui in seguito a lectotipificazione, e conseguentemente è introdotta la categoria dei sinonimi di nomenclatura in seguito a lectotipificazione. I nomi generici presi in considerazione in questo lavoro sono elencati, in ordine sistematico, nel Conspectus generum di ogni famiglia, ed in ordine alfabetico nell'indice dei generi alla fine del lavoro.
