Resumo

The scarcity of natural resources and the constant improvements in the area of renewable energies are forcing increasingly to search for better conditions and better technologies for energy recovery from combustion processes. The set called air pre-heater can be considered the most important for improving the combustion process of conventional boilers. This heat exchanger is directly linked to the recovery of the available energy in the flue gas by indirect contact. The fouling of soot (mixture of ash and silica) inherent in the combustion process is one of the factors that most impact the thermal performance of the device. This study examines by transient form, the fouling effect on the inner wall of the heat exchanger tubes of this. For this, two methods for performance analysis were used, the method defined in this study as Conventional, and the method proposed by the ASME (Performance Test Code 4.3 | 4.3 PTC). The results showed that although the Conventional method has shown average performance of 35% and the method ASME average of 40%, both have the same profile, thus validating the Conventional method. Besides the analysis of performance, other results were obtained from data determined experimentally. For this study, a high-pressure boiler was used, and the data of air flow and gas flow to the conventional method obtained with the use of Pitot tubes and Venturi specially developed for this application.
