A patent processus vaginalis in the male fetus may lead to the migration of meconium into the scrotum, and these infants can present with soft meconium-filled hydroceles at birth. Local tissue reaction during the first several weeks of life results in calcification of these hydroceles into hard tumor-like lesions that may mimic testicular neoplasia. We report an atypical case of meconium hydrocele in a newborn. © 1989 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byREDMAN J and COTTONE J (2018) UNUSUAL SEQUELA OF MECONIUM PERITONITIS IN AN INFANT: MASSIVE CONTRALATERAL EXTENSION OF A HERNIAL SACJournal of Urology, VOL. 165, NO. 1, (228-228), Online publication date: 1-Jan-2001.Kizer J, Bellah R, Schnaufer L and Canning D (2018) Meconium Hydrocele in a Female Newborn: An Unusual Cause of a Labial MassJournal of Urology, VOL. 153, NO. 1, (188-190), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1995.Salle J, de Fraga J, Wojciechowski M and Antunes C (2018) Congenital Rupture of Scrotum: An Unusual Complication of Meconium PeritonitisJournal of Urology, VOL. 148, NO. 4, (1242-1243), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1992.
