NEW FINDING OF THE GENUS GRAPNELISPORA (STOVER & PARTRIDGE) IN THE LONCOCHE FORMATION OF RANQUIL-CO, UPPER CRETACEOUS IN THE PROVINCE OF MENDOZA, ARGENTINA. A new finding of the genus Grapnelispora (Stover & Partridge) is reported for the lower part of the Loncoche Formation, Late Cretaceous, in Ranquil-Co, South of Mendoza Province. Abundant and well preserved individuals suggest that they belong to Grapnelispora. sp 1 (Sepulveda, Papu & Volkheimer, 1989) previously detected in the Arroyo Agua del Choique section, west of Malargue, in the Loncoche Formation, in Paso del Sapo Formation, in the central valley of Chubut River and also in Angostura Colorada Formation, Rincon de Coli Toro, Rio Negro Province. Heterosporate Pteridophytes are considered as the possible vegetal group that originated these megaspores, of late Maastrichtian-Campanian age. This species is restricted to lagoon littoral zones. The paleogeographic distribution of the species shows that it is exclusive to Gondwana: Argentina, Antarctica and the Australo-Papuan Region.
