[Abstract] For Arab institutions of higher education, there are difficulties and difficult choices ahead. One underlying problem is the lack of rigorous studies of technologies, their diverse consequences, the likes and dislikes of the technology, and the difference in gender perspectives. This study explored the extent and effects of intranet use on Ajman University students' achievement and self-confidence. This study used the quantitative method. Fifty-eight male and female students taking the Modern Education Technology course at Ajman University participated; 29 of them were put into the control group, and the other half in the experiment group. The study found that experiment group used the intranet and internet more often than the traditional group. Students in the control group and the experimental group had a positive, high level of confidence in all items. Also, the study found that there was no significant difference in achievement based on the number of hours spent using the intranet and internet; also, there is no significant difference in self-confidence or achievement between male and female students in the control group. In addition, the study found a weak correlation between self-confidence and achievement. Students need to develop a more global understanding, acceptance, and knowledge of themselves and others. Education is becoming increasingly collaborative with the advent of the Internet, so it is no surprise that educators around the world are seeking improved methods of collaborating through the medium of the Internet. Like higher education systems all over the world, the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) higher education system is committed to changing the education system from a traditionally-based one to an informationtechnology-based one. The consequence for the UAE education sector is a strategic transformation of higher education with many institutions re-structuring their course delivery practices to include online teaching and learning. According to Kenny (2003), flexible e-learning has already happened, and the Internet has already changed how teaching and learning are being delivered and processed (Mason, 1999) indicated that Web based learning is here to stay. The Internet and web-based technologies enable changes in the way people learn. Students no longer need to attend a class online at the prescheduled time and location. With a vast amount of information on the World Wide Web (www), the students have access to materials outside their classroom and library lecture, and discussion between students and an instructor can be done online anytime and anywhere via the Internet. The effect of the intranet on AUST's science and technology students' achievement and self-confidence will be addressed. Statement of the Study Computer technology has been in schools since the early 80's. Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been incorporated more at the higher levels of education than at the primary and elementary level. There is much research telling why we should use technology and how. This work, Intranet courses, is justification for the use of technology in the university level. It offers research that supports why instructors should use technology, such as intranet and its efficiency. The use of the intranet in teaching has been affecting the ways of delivering information to the students and how it changes the process of acquiring knowledge and enhancing achievement; nevertheless effecting how students receiving themselves and as a result their self-confident. AUST emphasizes using all the electronic tools available in teaching students and applying the e-learning and the internet in their learning process; thus, this study tries to examine the effect of the Intranet use on AUST students' achievement and self-confidence Significance of the Study The twenty-first century is a time of great growth in the development and deployment of instructional technologies in colleges and universities, as well as in non-traditional enterprises in the higher education sector, including a number of for-profit ventures. …
