In this chapter, in fact in the whole book, we will aim at illustrating rationale and process of the methodology of Holistic Innovation, which is maximizing the gross value of an innovative development for its intended users from the very onset of the project. We will argue that such a project must start with an identification of a worthwhile topic area, and with an in-depth understanding of the characteristics of the user groups, and what sort of functional values they are interested in, even including interests that they are not aware of yet. It is furthermore vital to know in which environment and with what kinds of resources the innovation will need to be realized.
