ResumoRussian forests are of global importance, both for timber resources and for their ecological value. Russia holds the largest forest resource in the world, consisting of one-fifth of global forest stocks. It is often claimed that Russian forests are the last “wood basket” and have great potential in the world timber market. Russian forests also hold great significance for biodiversity conservation and have been recently recognized as an important sink for greenhouse gases.
