ResumoThe benzodiazepines (BDZ) are known for a wide variety of pharmacological effects, among which anxiolytic, hypnotic, sedatory, muscle relaxing and anticonvulsant actions are the most prominent. Much progress has been made in the elucidation of their mechanism of action by the discovery and characterization of high affinity binding sites for BDZ in the brain. However, not all complex behavioural actions are completely explained by the concepts derived from receptor binding. One such behavioural response is the intriguing question of the pro-aggressive action of low doses of benzodiazepines.
